Way back in the late 1900s…. (I hate when people say that lol) in 1997 to be exact, Sean “Diddy“ Combs released a song called "I'll Be Missing You”. That incredible song used a sample from a Police song called "Every Breath You Take”. Diddy being Diddy he of course did this without getting permission. This made Sting, the lead singer of the Police, so upset that he sued Mr. Combs. Eventually, cooler heads prevailed and they agreed on a settlement where Diddy would pay Sting $2 million & also give him a "perpetual license" to the sample. I didn’t know what that meant either and had to look it up. Basically, this means that Diddy has to pay Sting $5,000 every single day for the rest of his life. Kind of crazy right? That’s the music business for you I guess. Even though Diddy is not happy about it, he has paid over $2 million in these daily payments to Sting so far. The moral of the story here kids... sometimes it’s better to ask for permission rather than beg for forgiveness. How do you feel about this? Thanks for popping by my blog - JR
