A local flower shop in Colorado Springs is hitting triple digits this year. And the special day just happens to land on one of the biggest days of the year for their line of work.
Platte Floral is getting ready to celebrate its 100th birthday on Valentine's Day.
With local shops closing left and right due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this accomplishment is no easy feat.
As the big day approaches, there are 12,000 roses waiting to be bought and delivered throughout the state. With 12,000 roses each year, Platte Floral has sold countless flowers throughout its successful 100 year-and-counting run.
The owner Dianna Tolbert spoke to KDRO about the significance this year holds.
"That means, I wish my husband was here to see it," said Tolbert. "This was his business, this was his goal and to make it for him and to make it for the community because there are a very few retail stores that can say we’ve made it."
Tolbert says the goal is to keep the flower shop open as long as possible.
"I have people coming in that were little kids that say 'my parents brought me in,' and now they are bringing their children in," said Tolbert. "For us, that's my goal is to look forward."
This Valentine's Day fifteen drivers from Platte Floral will be making deliveries.
If you'd like to have an arrangement delivered from them, they suggest get your order in by Saturday.
